Nantucket Musical Arts Society
Founded in 1959, the Nantucket Musical Arts Society has become a staple of the Nantucket experience. The performers are all top-notch and the programs varied enough to provide something for everyone.
Of particular interest this season, our 49th, is the program on July 24 featuring the Boston Virtuosi, a group of thirteen string players and a timpanist, all from Boston, and the historic Steere pipe organ in the First Congregational Church, under the direction of James David Christie with organist Timothy E. Smith, playing delightful concerti for organ and orchestra by Handel, Mozart, Haydn, Pinkham and Poulenc.
We will continue to sponsor an informal gathering with the scheduled artists on Monday evenings at the Unitarian Church on Orange Street. These meetings are free and a great introduction to the upcoming concert.
